After several years of waiting, Steam has finally officially introduced support for Nintendo’s Switch Joy-Con controllers in its latest client beta.
More than 5 years after the release of the Nintendo Switch, Joy-Con controller support finally included in latest Steam beta update. Nintendo Switch Joy-Con support tops the very short list of changes in the Steam Client Beta Community Update for August, but it’s the most important.
If you have access to Steam and that particular client, that means you can now sync your Joy-Con and use them as a controller. The patch notes specify that they are supported individually and can also be used in pairs.

Steam finally adds Joy-Con to its list of compatible controllers
The company says it has ” added support for Nintendo Joy-Con controllers, both individually as a mini-gamepad and combined in pairs “, and ” improved support for Nintendo Online classic controllers with the release of the latest Steam client beta on August 4th.
It means you have to be signed up for the Steam Client Beta to take advantage of it. To do this, head to your Steam settings and search for “Beta Participation” in the Account menu. Press the “Edit” button, select “Steam Beta Update”, then restart the app.
This is’a feature that took a long time to arrive on the platform, which had made the new PS5 DualSense controller compatible only a few weeks after its release. However, Valve hasn’t indicated whether Steam will support the Joy-Con’s most iconic features, such as HD Rumble or built-in gyroscopes.
In addition to the Joy-Con, Valve is also improving its support for classic Nintendo controllers that it sells to Switch Online subscribers. This feature was introduced in the public version of the Steam client last week, allowing you to use Switch-specific NES, SNES, N64 and Sega Genesis controllers on Steam.
