The Nintendo Switch continues its merry way in the ranking of historical consoles.

And she is strong. With the new sales figures just announced by Nintendo, this game console has entered the top 3 best-selling consoles in history.

Nintendo Switch, registration number 122 million

If someone asks you for a mythical game console right away, right now, what would your answer be? All those who vibrated younger on the very first versions of Pokemon (blue, red, yellow…) would surely answer “the Game Boy! or “the Game Boy Color!” “. Others, who wrung out the best games of their time to the last drop (who said GTA IV ?) will no doubt agree in the direction of the PlayStation 4.

These two gaming monsters present in the minds of many nostalgic people have just been overtaken by the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese giant has just announced that with 17 million consoles sold last year, it had now been sold to the tune of 122 million units since its launch. It has thus exceeded 117 million for the PS4 and 118 million for the Game Boy.

Can the Switch aim for the top spot?

This success is not surprising. The hybrid console, already number 1 in France, reaches a very wide audience ranging from children to young adults. Ahead of it, only the Nintendo DS (154 million) and the absolute number one, the PlayStation 2 (155 million) remain. This still substantial gap could however be filled if the rumor that its lifespan was going to be extended were to be confirmed.

For its part, the eternal rival that is Sony can also hope to see its latest console, the PlayStation 5, quickly climb the ladder of the rankings. She is currently 18e, with 32 million units sold. But when we remember the chaotic conditions of its start, in the midst of the semiconductor crisis, and with the good figures that have just been communicated, there is reason to be optimistic for the tech giant.
