“For Nintendo, gamescom is a central event in the calendar of events. This year, however, we have decided not to participate in Cologne after carefully weighing the pros and cons.“, confirmed Nintendo to the German site. The decision may surprise insofar as Nintendo is a faithful of the show (its gamescom 2019 portal is still online here) and that the manufacturer has a rich catalog to put forward for its Switch.
But for this year, Nintendo prefers to reconnect with the public by moving to other events. In the case of Germany, the manufacturer has planned to take the road to go to the festival of children and young people in Stuttgart, the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt, the DoKomi in Düsseldorf and the AnimagiC in Mannheim. “We look forward to meeting our fans at many regional events“, adds Nintendo.
Such a defection is clearly not good news for the organizers of gamescom who, for the big return of the show in sanitary conditions close to normal, will not be able to count on the participation of 2K and Wargaming either. Whatever the final list of exhibitors, the world will still have their eyes on Cologne at least for the Opening Night Live opening ceremony, during which we will find the dominating Geoff Keighley for a new wave announcements. It will be on the evening of Thursday August 25.
