Nissan is opening orders for its Ariya electric SUV, available from €46,400. It comes in two trim levels with a 63 kWh or 87 kWh battery, for a maximum range of 520 km.
For the past 15 years, Nissan has been at the forefront of new automotive trends with the Qashqai which gave a new definition to SUVs, then the Juke and the Leaf electric car. Alas, the Japanese manufacturer has not always been able to capitalize on these models thereafter, while the competition has since organized itself and taken market share from it.
Thus, the compact electric Leaf has certainly given birth to a second generation, but it is no longer among the best-selling electric cars, and it took more than 10 years for Nissan to launch a second connected model. The Ariya (that’s its name) is a 4.60 m long electric SUV based on the new CMF-EV platform shared with the electric Renault Mégane E-Tech. Although presented before the French now marketed, it had still not been launched on the market. The Covid-19 pandemic and the shortage of semiconductors have indeed postponed its marketing.
Two trim levels and two battery capacities
The Ariya is now available to order in France from €46,400, excluding the €4,000 bonus – which will increase to €3,000 on July 1, 2022. For this first price, you will be entitled to the 63 kWh Advance version. On the technical side, and as its name suggests, it is equipped with a 63 kWh battery (useful capacity). The brand announces a range of 403 km (pending final approval) and it is traction with a 160 kW (218 hp) and 300 Nm engine driving the front axle.
This Advance finish already offers supplied equipment, including two 12.3-inch screens, electric and heated front seats, or even the level 2 ProPILOT autonomous driving system.
Still in traction, the 87 kWh Evolve version is more powerful, at 178 kW (242 hp). It is sold for €57,400 (excluding bonuses). Its battery increases to 87 kWh and its autonomy to 520 km (pending final approval). This configuration (traction and large battery) provides the best autonomy in the range and imposes the second level of Evolve finish, adding in particular the panoramic sunroof, the head-up display or the ProPILOT Park automatic parking system.
Finally, this version is available in four-wheel drive under the name 87 kWh e-4ORCE Evolve for a price of €60,400 (excluding bonuses). The maximum power reaches 225 kW (306 hp) and the torque 600 Nm. However, the autonomy increases to 493 km (pending final approval) and the trunk volume reaches only 415 l, against 468 l for the two versions. driving wheels.

Note that the 22 kW three-phase charger is offered as an option (1000 €) and only with the 87 kWh battery. Otherwise, it will be necessary to be satisfied with an alternating current charge at 7.4 kW. Unlike the Leaf, the Ariya is equipped with a Combo CCS socket. Its direct current charging is possible up to 130 kW.
The 63 kWh e-4ORCE and 87 kWh Performance versions mentioned during the presentation of the Ariya do not seem to be on the program for France, at least at launch.
Unlike the Nissan Leaf, which had a lack of competition when it was born, the Ariya arrives in a now busy market. It will have to contend with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Volkswagen ID.4, Škoda Enyaq, and even Tesla Model Y. Unfortunately for the Ariya, its pricing isn’t the most aggressive. Its first deliveries are expected in the summer of 2022.
