This prototype facility, located at Nissan’s Kanagawa Research Center, aims to promote the development of all-solid-state batteries and launch an electric vehicle equipped with all-solid-state batteries by FY2028.
The company believes the cost of all-solid-state batteries can be reduced to $75 per kWh in FY2028 and $65 per kWh thereafter, which would put electric vehicles at the same cost level as vehicles. gasoline.
These batteries have approximately twice the energy density of conventional lithium-ion batteries, significantly shorter charge time due to superior charge/discharge performance, and lower cost due to the ability to use less expensive.
“Going forward, our R&D and manufacturing divisions will continue to work together to utilize this prototype production facility and accelerate the practical application of these batteries,” said Kunio Nakaguro, executive vice president of R&D.
