Nissan also wants to reduce the cost of the next generation of electric cars (EV) by 30% to bring it closer to that of thermal engine models by 2030.

It expects electrified vehicles, which include hybrids, to account for 60% of global sales by the end of the decade, up from a target of 55% published in February 2023.

Nissan has been a pioneer in electric vehicles with its Leaf model, but its efforts in the field have been overshadowed by its American rival Tesla TSLA.O and Chinese leader BYD 002594.SZ , including in the world’s largest auto market, China.

Faced with fierce competition, Nissan and its domestic rival Honda Motor 7267.T said this month they were considering a strategic partnership to collaborate in particular on components for electric vehicles.
