No alternative plans? – Disagreement about photovoltaic strategies

With the state’s stipulation to be climate neutral by 2030, more and more municipalities are now outdoing each other with initiatives to get closer to this goal. But what is okay with some people find it terrible – there is still a lot of discussion to be done about the most efficient strategy.

Energie Burgenland has defined 19 so-called suitability zones with a size of around 1380 hectares, which are considered suitable for photovoltaic open-space systems. The Landtag passed a new spatial planning law in the summer. While Energie Burgenland has the plan to become number one in photovoltaics, surprisingly the Greens are critical of the open space plans and fear damage to the landscape and arable land. Last week, Neusiedl unanimously decided to To erect photovoltaic systems on the roofs of community-owned buildings such as kindergartens or music schools. In Güssing it is the other way around: The transformer station there is to be expanded in the long term by an additional 100 hectare, half as expensive open space system, as the local ÖVP criticizes. Compromises and dual use for the future For Energie Burgenland the answer is clear – in the future it can give only a combination of all options, so company spokesman Jürgen Schwarz. Even using all available roofs would cover the energy requirement of 2000 megawatts by only a quarter. So if the goal of “climate neutrality” in Burgenland, but also in the entire republic is really to be implemented by 2030, all sides have to make concessions. Dual use concepts are absolutely essential.
