With cheap smartphones, the omission of the charger is more critical than with flagships for several reasons. On the one hand, the M and A series are aimed specifically at customers who either do not have a smartphone at all before their Samsung device or are still using a very old device. The necessary purchase of a charger is therefore more likely – and for people who buy cheaper cell phones it will certainly be even harder to cope with.

As a second special feature, wired chargers are usually the only way to charge cheap cell phones. Because while most high-end smartphones are already coming onto the market with wireless charging, most manufacturers are saving the feature on inexpensive models. To make matters worse, chargers are much more necessary for cheap cell phones.
“Galaxy for the Planet” as an environmental protection excuse
Samsung has recently emphasized that it wants to reduce its own ecological footprint. By 2025, Samsung’s environmental protection goals are to be achieved through the use of recycled plastic from ghost nets, and they also want to reduce waste during production in the long term. Whether these attempts actually make sense or whether Samsung can only do greenwashing has been a topic of discussion since the charger drought was first announced.
Last year, the manufacturer Fairphone showed what drastic measures need to be taken with sustainable smartphones. With the modular Fairphone 4, the manufacturer released a smartphone that consists largely of recycled materials and with which you even automatically buy compensation for the electronic waste that occurs.
