No damage to the environment – oil spill in Marina on Lake Wolfgang

During cleaning work in the boat marina in St. Gilgen, divers retrieved old barrels on Saturday. Oil leaked from one of these 200 liter barrels. Fire brigades and water rescue prevented damage to the environment with barriers and binders.

“The barrels are likely to have come from an old floating dock,” reports Karl Paul, local fire department commander in St. Gilgen. Oil leaked from an old and sunk 200 liter barrel on Saturday, which spread on the surface of the water.

260 meter long oil barriers erected
How much oil it actually was cannot be estimated. 45 fire brigades and water rescue workers erected 260-meter-long oil barriers to prevent it from spreading.

Then the oil was processed with binding agent and sucked off. “Damage to nature could be prevented,” reports Paul. The operation continued in the early evening.
