No electricity, bridge gone – Mure tore car – violent storms in the Stubaital

Heavy storms swept over Tyrol on Friday evening. The Stubaital in the Innsbruck-Land district was particularly hard hit. Several mudslides went off, one of which tore a car and its occupants in Fulpmes. Streets had to be closed, in Fulpmes and Neustift there were extensive, long-lasting power failures.

The heavy rain triggered several mudslides in the upper Stubaital as far as Mieders. A landslide hit the B183 Stubaitalstraße at around 9:20 p.m. and swept away a car with two people in it. According to information from the Tyrol control center, both were partially buried and had to be recovered by the fire brigade. They were taken to the clinic in Innsbruck. The control center did not report other injured people for the time being. Numerous roads were impassable, including parts of the B183 Stubaitalstraße. A debris flow ripped away a bridge and another was damaged. In Fulpmes and Neustift there were large-scale power failures that lasted for a long time. According to the control center, no place was cut off from the outside world for the time being. Operational capacities increased Late in the evening, the fire brigade, ambulance and road maintenance departments were deployed throughout the valley. In order to create more capacity, the Red Cross Wipptal put additional vehicles into service in the evening. The Tyrol control center is also working with a larger team, at least until Saturday morning, according to the headquarters. The clean-up work continued late in the evening and will continue on Saturday. The storms also left their mark in other communities in the country. In addition to the Stubaital, hotspots were the Wattens and Volders areas. In the early evening thunderstorms also fell in Imst, in Roppen they also triggered a debris flow that descended on a municipal road. It was cleared with heavy equipment.
