The social network TikTok is currently the target of numerous false advertisements claiming that Elon Musk offers cryptocurrencies. This is obviously a scam, be careful.
You know the saying: when it’s too good to be true, it’s probably not true. The expression has never been more true than when talking about social media scams. “You won an iPhone 15! Click quickly!”, “Bravo! You are the 10,000th connected! Click here to claim your prize!” and other false messages abound on the platforms. If hackers create them regularly, it’s simply because they work. And what “works well” are the cryptocurrency promises.

At the moment it is TikTok who pays the cost of false advertising campaign. They are posted every hour, and feature a well-known character: Elon Muskboss of X (Twitter), You’re here And SpaceX. Some are quite elaborate. We see a deepfake of the leader supposedly interviewed by an American media outlet like Fox News. He explains that he is launching a donation of cryptocurrencies. Other ads are simpler, they just include a website link and a code to receive free bitcoins.

If you click on the ad, you are redirected to a (fake) cryptocurrency investment platform. It takes different names: bitoxies, moonexio, altgetxio, cratopex… You must then create an account and enter the promotional code obtained previously. By doing this you see how many bitcoins you will receive. For example, one of the sites promises 0.34 bitcoinseither around €8,500just that.
Of course, and this is the scam, to “withdraw the funds you need to activate your account. To activate your account, make a minimum deposit of 0.005 bitcoin”. You therefore have to pay approximately 125 € which pirates will rush to recover, without giving you anything in return. Said like that, the deception seems obvious, and yet, many people regularly fall for it. Fraudsters would be wise to beware however, prison sentences for cryptocurrency fraud can be very high.
