Good news if you are thinking of buying a Galaxy S24, the new flagship from Samsung expected in early 2024: the Korean company would opt for the status quo in terms of prices.

The Samsung Galaxy S24s will soon show the end of their sensors and their increasingly right angles in the case of the Ultra. In fact, many sources agree on a presentation from January 18. This date would be even closer to the start of the year than for the S23, the latter having been presented on February 1 during Samsung Unpacked 2023.

The characteristics of the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra have been well documented for several weeks now, but the prices remained more uncertain. According to a report from Hankyung, no increase is expected.

No increase thanks to Apple?

The source reveals that the Galaxy S24 series will be sold at the same prices as the Galaxy S23. To refresh your memory, the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra debuted at 959 euros, 1219 euros and 1419 euros respectively. We should therefore count on similar entry prices for their successors.

Samsung’s decision to keep prices the same seems quite rational. After the high inflation of recent months, it is likely that fewer and fewer customers are willing to spend ever more crazy sums on a smartphone.

In addition, the Galaxy S23 had already led to a significant increase in prices: the Galaxy S22s were priced from 859 euros (S22), 1059 euros (S22+) and 1259 euros (Ultra). As such, our main complaints with the 23 series focused primarily on pricing.

Finally, the last element to take into account is to look for competition: Apple has, for once, lowered the prices of its iPhone 15. In these conditions, for Samsung, increasing its prices would be a gamble very risky.

Boost sales, and a less expensive SoC

In order to cover its costs, the Korean brand would focus on two axes. The first would be the increase in sales volume, with a target of more than 35 million units.

The second directly relates to the components. By reintroducing Exynos chips (Exynos 2400) for the S24 and S24+ models in certain countries, Samsung would lower its production costs; the SoC designed and manufactured by the brand is certainly less expensive than that of Qualcomm (in this case, than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3).

Samsung Galaxy S23

  • Excellent screen
  • Performance
  • Good autonomy

The most compact Galaxy S23 is undoubtedly a success. We appreciate the quality of the screen, the overall performance and its energy efficiency in normal use. Samsung also had the good idea of better integrating the back camera modules into the rear panel. The photo/video part evolves in very small steps. We would have liked Samsung to be a little more daring and upgrade the hardware characteristics.

We still regret the lack of supply of a charger with the S23 and especially the slowness of the “quick” charge, especially compared to what the competition offers.

And the price in all this? It is high, much too high: 959 euros for the 8/128 GB model (equipped with UFS 3.1 storage, less efficient than the UFS 4.0 equipping the rest of the range) and 1019 for the 8/256 GB version. How long gone are the days when the Galaxy S was not worth more than 500 euros…
