Robert Pattinson would have seen the “Twilight” saga go further than a fantasy romance, but the marketing department prevented him from doing so!
Robert Pattinson wanted the Twilight saga to go much further than it did. Apparently alone against everyone, the interpreter of Edward Cullen returned for the media Indiewire about this period when he tried to break the rules imposed by the studio. It was in 2019:
Even with Twilight I was doing strange things and to be honest I always thought Twilight was very strange. It’s actually more thanks to marketing that it has become mainstream. If you watch interviews that I did for [ces films]I pushed to chew placenta… Anything that I could make gross, I went all out.

Pattinson refers to a scene that is actually quite disturbing from Twilight – Chapter 4: Revelation Part 1 during which Bella (Kristen Stewart) is having difficulty giving birth and Edward bites the placenta with his vampire teeth – fortunately off-camera – to bring out the baby. An element which shocked many spectators, but which Pattinson does not regret, quite the contrary!
While he was provoked by Johnny Depp at the time of Twilight, Pattinson obviously sought to push the limits of what it was possible to show in a mainstream saga watched by millions of teenagers in the world. A challenge which was, by his own admission, a wasted effort:
“I was pushing and pushing, but what can one man do against an entire marketing department? They were like, ‘Oh my god, it’s a romantic odyssey, it’s romantic,’ and I was like, ‘No, it’s ‘is disgusting!'”

Pattinson therefore places himself, as he has always done, as a bad boy infiltrated in Hollywood, who participates in the system while criticizing it from the inside. Twilight seems too wise to him, he wanted to add a touch of madness to it. This way of thinking can bring him closer to a Daniel Radcliffe who, as soon as he was freed from his commitments to the saga that made him known, left to shoot independent cinema, sometimes the strangest possible.

Remember that in 2019, Pattinson starred in The Lighthouse, a disconcerting as well as extreme and dreamlike work, just as Radcliffe offered Miracle Workers, a comedy in which he played an angel in the service of a god played by Steve Buscemi .
We will see Robert Pattinson again in The Batman 2 by Matt Reeves, filming of which begins next March for release in October 2025. In the meantime, he will be starring in Mickey 17 by Bong Joon Ho, currently scheduled for 27 March at the cinema, unless the date moves to allow the film to be present at the Cannes Film Festival?
