The AKG brand, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has just launched two new flagship products: the N9 Hybrid circum-aural headphones aiming to offer record battery life and the headphones true wireless N5 Hybrid. Both come with a dongle USB-C to limit latency.

In an attempt to stand out from other models currently available on the market, the AKG N9 Hybrid headphones and N5 Hybrid headphones come with a dongle USB-C operating at 2.4 GHz and providing an “instant” wireless connection and thus minimizing potential latency from the devices to which they are connected. We find this concept in particular with the SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds headphones, for example.

This can work as well on a PC, as a smartphone, or even a games console, for example in order to allow the most optimal synchronization. The accessory can be conveniently stored in the left earcup of the headset or in the earphones carrying/charging case.

Also note that the brand provides a USB-C to USB-A adapter, if necessary.

Both devices are Bluetooth compatible with support for Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair technologies so they can be instantly paired with smartphones or computers supporting this technology and can switch from one device to another in an instant. Of course, it also supports multipoint function.

Real-time adjustments

The AKG N5 Hybrid earphones and AKG N9 Hybrid headphones are compatible with Hi-Res audio, AAC, SBC and LDAC codecs and deliver immersive spatial sound, according to the brand. The headset has 6 microphones and an active noise reduction function, just like the headphones (presence of 4 microphones).

Real-time adjustments are provided to adapt, where necessary, to all types of sound environments from the quietest to the loudest. To maintain control, however, it is possible to manually activate the noise reduction level. For headphones, the shape of the ear canal is automatically detected to compensate for sound leakage, which is not the case for headphones since they encompass the entire ears.

With both devices, AKG promises perfectly clear conversations, particularly for calls, but also for videoconferencing thanks in particular to ambient noise reduction algorithms. Note that it is possible to refine the voice for meetings and of course adjust the sound for listening. As soon as you start speaking, the audio automatically pauses.

The AKG N5 Hybrid headphones are IP54 certified, thus being able to resist splashes as well as sweat, making them suitable for accompanying you for sports sessions, for example. Both devices are configurable via the AKG Headphones app.

Endless autonomy

In terms of autonomy, AKG announces continuous listening for up to 10 hours with a single charge for the N5 Hybrid headphones and up to 3 recharges with the case for a total duration of 40 hours in Bluetooth connection (ANC function deactivated). Using the USB-C dongle, the brand announces a maximum autonomy of 4 hours 30 minutes on a single charge. 15 minutes of charging would provide 4 hours of battery life.

As for the headphones, with a Bluetooth connection (ANC function deactivated), the brand promises up to 100 hours of continuous listening and up to 85 hours via the USB key.

And the sound in all this?

The N9 Hybrid is positioned as the new flagship of the AKG headphone range. This wireless circum-aural model sports an elegant, rather refined design with an adjustable headband and several control buttons on the headphones. It wants to promise impressive sound quality thanks to its 40mm liquid crystal polymer transducers. The latter intend to minimize distortions for fairer music.
