Hello, we are starting the year 2022 as we intend to continue it! We are pleased to announce that the first update of the year is available for download today, for players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR. His name is No Man’s Sky Sentinel.

The Sentinel update brings a reorganization of the combat systems in the game and in the enemies you encounter, to create something more challenging and exciting. No Man’s Sky is an exploration game, but our universe has always been filled with risk and danger. Sentinels control the planets you explore, and are an element of the game that we have long wanted to make more interesting, deep, and fun, while allowing players to fight and defeat them in more meaningful ways.

Luckily, this update brings a wide variety of combat buffs and refinements to the Battle-Scarred Traveler. You will have access to new weapons and upgrades such as the High Energy Neutron Cannon, an Active Cloaking Device, as well as a new Electrifying Stun Grenade. You can even install an AI on your Minotaur exoskeleton to protect you during battles.

Sentinels have also become more formidable. You will have to fight against new elite classes of drones, including heavy units, summon units and repair units, and even against their fearsome armored exoskeleton. Sentinels now deploy their own mobile energy shield and have access to new weapons such as Terrain Destroyer Grenades and a Plasma Flamethrower. And for the brave, the locations of the mysterious Sentinel Pillars have been revealed, with exclusive rewards and mysterious stories awaiting those who would break into the robotic archives.

With the new Sentinel update, players will be able to experience the story of how Sentinels were created. As you progress through a series of new story-driven missions, you’ll have the opportunity to reprogram and adopt your own friendly AI drone, as well as collect parts to create your own defense.

Also check out a new Exobiology Expedition starting next week, with a ton of exclusive new rewards!

It’s a big update, but here are some of the new features:

Armored Sentinel Exoskeleton

Battle an all-new robotic enemy: the enormous, heavily armed armored exoskeleton. Equipped with lasers, terrain-destroying grenades, and plasma flamethrowers, this dreadful new Sentinel charges into battle with a high-powered jetpack.

Total visual modernization for weapons

All multi-tool systems, from the mining laser to the scattergun, have received a complete visual upgrade, with new projectiles and beams, cannon flashes, lighting effects, reflections, new impacts and even more !

Advanced Combat Enhancements

New upgrades add depth to fights, with the ability to add stun or burn effects to your existing weapons, or program your multi-tool to deal extra damage to targets you previously had marked. Or take advantage of the game with the new cloaking device to disappear in the middle of combat and gain the upper hand strategically.

AI robot companions

Players can assemble and reprogram their own friendly companion drone, or take it a step further and collect sentry exoskeleton parts to build their own giant AI-powered autonomous mechanical escort.

New stories and missions

Work together with the crew of the Space Anomaly on an important new mission for the story, or attack the sinister Sentinel Pillars to gain access to their archives and fathom the secret of the Atlas and the World of Glass…

Improved combat pacing and fluidity

A long list of tweaks and refinements have been made to weapon handling and fluidity, making the combat experience more dynamic and impactful.

New enemy drones

Classic sentry units have been revamped, with heavy combat and defense drones, dedicated repair drones, and even complex summon units joining the existing drone patrol.

Last year, No Man’s Sky released a ton of updates (including Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, and Frontiers) and our very first Expeditions (like Beachhead, Emergence, Trailblazers, and Cartographers). I have no doubt that 2022 will be just as productive for our small team.

We can’t wait to see our PlayStation communities take on the enhanced power of the Sentinels in this 18th update.

Our journey continues.
