Instagram: New Dickpics filter in the works
Some Instagram users keep getting emails of nude photos that they didn’t ask for and wish they hadn’t. According to a British study published in spring 2022, Instagram protects its users far too little from “cyberflashing”. According to Meta, filters are already available that are supposed to recognize nudity in pictures, but in practice they often fail and the unwanted photos get through.
Now Meta has announced that a new tool is in the works to Better protect users from dickpics in the DMs. But you would still be at the beginning of the development – so a timely publication is not to be expected. However, it is already clear that users should decide for themselves whether they want to activate nudity protection for chats or not. In addition to naked pictures, the new tool should also take care of insults and hatred.

Unwanted nude pictures are punishable
The unsolicited sending of nude pictures is punishable in Germany. There is a risk of a fine or even imprisonment of up to one year. Those affected are required to report the date, time, message and the (online) name of the sender.
