What changes Netflix and Co. will make in 2023
In 2023, lovers of films, series and music will often have to dig deeper into their pockets than before. That changes this year.
Netflix caused the biggest stir on the streaming market last year with the announcement that it would end account sharing. This practice has been common practice for almost ten years, but the number of new customers is stagnating – and with it the turnover. The same applies to other providers who also adjust their prices, including Amazon or DAZN. These changes are coming to streaming customers in 2023.
Around five years ago, Netflix was still actively promoting allowing sharing of accounts. in one now famous tweet the company wrote on March 10, 2017: “Love is sharing a password.” (In English: “Love means sharing a password.”) Since then, the company’s philosophy has changed, because the previous sharing of accounts is finally on the verge of extinction. Previously, Netflix customers got five profiles from a single account that they could share with friends or family. In the future, this should only be possible via family accounts – and then only within a household.
An exact date for the implementation of the project has not yet been set, but Netflix is already offering the option of outsourcing a profile to an independent account. Only those who do this can receive their personal history – and thus complete a subscription. Here, users can choose between the standard subscription for EUR 7.99 per month, an account with two profiles for EUR 12.99 per month or the family subscription with four profiles for EUR 17.99 per month.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime subscription costs were already increasing in September 2022, but so were the regular subscriptions. In 2023, the discounted version offered by Amazon to customers who are exempt from broadcasting fees or have a social security pass will also become more expensive. From January 17, you will pay EUR 4.99 every 30 days instead of EUR 3.99 per month.
In addition, Amazon seems to be thinking about changes in sports. one Report by “The Information” According to the report, the group is discussing an independent sports offer internally against the background of the increasingly expensive transmission rights, for which separate costs could ultimately be incurred. So far, however, this has been in the realm of speculation, Amazon has not commented on the facts.
DAZN, on the other hand, has created new facts. For existing customers, after the price increase in summer 2022, against which the Federal Association of Consumer Advice Centers is currently examining a class action lawsuit, nothing at first. But if you take out a new subscription, you will be confronted with a revised subscription model that is again more expensive at the top. In the future there will be the two packages “DAZN World” (9.99 euros/month) and “DAZN Standard” (24.99 euros/month). Only those who book “DAZN Unlimited” (EUR 29.99/month for an annual subscription and EUR 39.99/month for the monthly terminable version) have access to the complete content of DAZN.
The only thing that is certain at Disney + so far is that the offer will be expanded to include advertising-financed subscriptions in the course of 2023, but the streaming provider has not yet given a date. In the US, however, Disney + has already switched to the upcoming system. There, the subscription with advertising costs as much as the standard subscription, namely $8.99. For $3 more a month, subscribers turn off the ads. Market observers assume that the change in Europe could come from spring.
