The iPhone 5s (test report), introduced in 2013, will no longer receive support from Apple. The smartphone is now listed as “obsolete” on the US support site. This means that Apple is officially retiring the ten-year-old smartphone; it is now a case for the technology museum.

The iPhone 5s has not received software updates for some time, more precisely since iOS 12.5.7. Now official Apple dealers no longer offer hardware support in the event of a defect.

The iPhone 5s was the first Apple phone that could be unlocked using biometric features, in this case a fingerprint. It also had an 8-megapixel camera on the back that could also record videos in 1080p.

The iPhone 5s had a four-inch display and served as a technical blueprint for the equally popular iPhone SE. Nowadays, compact smartphones are the exception, although there are still a few current models.

It is not expected that Apple will present a new, compact iPhone model in September. You can find out what the iPhone 16 will be able to do instead in the linked overview article.
