Windows 11 thinks of RGB fans
Twitter user Albacore spotted something new in the latest Windows 11 test build: options to control the lighting of RGB accessories connected to the PC. Until now, it was mandatory to go through the software offered by the manufacturers (Razer Synapse, Roccat Swarm, Corsair iCUE, etc.) in order to adjust the behavior of its keyboard, mouse, headset and other RAM strips equipped with RGB lighting.
Located in the “Personalization” menu, the lighting options first offer a menu for each accessory detected. A button to cut all the lighting is also present. Then the color, brightness level and lighting effect (single color, flashing, rainbow) as well as its speed can be chosen. A button also allows you to automatically choose a color according to the active theme on Windows 11.
Microsoft is testing things for its OS
At least initially, in particular, this integration of RGB lighting into the Microsoft OS risks being less complete than that offered by the manufacturers’ dedicated software. Especially since the latter generally allow you to do other things, such as changing the assignment of the buttons of a keyboard / mouse, or even updating the firmware of the peripherals.
But for people who are a little limited when it comes to RAM or storage on their PC, being able to uninstall these applications to settle for basic options directly in Windows 11 should definitely be good news. Especially since even if this software has made some progress in recent years, it is not always the best optimized.
However, it remains to be hoped that this functionality will pass the test stage to be integrated into one of the next major updates of the OS.
