“No problem” with the couch title: It doesn’t matter how: FC Bayern is eager for the championship

“No Problem” with Couch title
No matter how: FC Bayern is hungry for the championship

“Only the win counts,” says Thomas Tuchel. The Bayern Munich coach would also celebrate the championship on the home sofa after a blunder from competitor Borussia Dortmund. In the top game against RB Leipzig, however, he has to do without a quartet.

Title on the couch or only in Cologne? The main thing is bowl! “I have no problem at all with how that happens,” said coach Thomas Tuchel of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich about his possible first German championship. The only thing that matters is “that it happens,” he emphasized at a press conference.

The leader is one point ahead of pursuer Borussia Dortmund in the last two games against RB Leipzig on Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) and a week later at 1. FC Köln. If the record champions win against RB and BVB lose at FC Augsburg on Sunday (5:30 p.m. / DAZN), winning the title would be perfect prematurely.

“For us, only the win counts,” said Tuchel about the duel with Leipzig. Despite the last ten championships in a row, it is “not routine” for Bayern to win the cup again, the coach emphasized. Before the last two matchdays, Tuchel sees his team nervously and also in form for the close title race.

Bayern quartet missing against Leipzig

In addition to Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies, he again has to do without Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. “He doesn’t make it,” said Tuchel, “everyone else is fully operational.” Also the last sick Yann Sommer and Serge Gnabry, who only trained individually on Thursday.

“We know Leipzig’s strengths, the style is clear,” said Tuchel. It is “extremely important to prevent counterattacks before they occur. We have to protect ourselves while the attack is underway”. Nevertheless, Tuchel wants to “let as many players as possible attack freely. We have to get the mix right, it’s demanding.”

Tuchel did not want to comment on the latest transfer speculation about FC Bayern. “Nice try,” he said when asked why he was looking for a six, “but we won’t make the squad planning public.”
