The Minister of Relations with Parliament Marie Lebec confirmed on Tuesday that the government would go through regulations and not through an amended finance bill for 2024 to regulate the approximately 10 billion additional savings announced on Sunday.
“The freezing of credits will take place, the cancellation of credits will take place during the week,” assured the Minister Delegate at the microphone of Sud Radio, insisting on the desire of the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire to “ act quickly.”
She thus responded to the request the day before from the president of the Finance Commission, the rebellious Éric Coquerel, that these cuts pass through a text of law which would be debated in the National Assembly.
Denouncing a “democratic denial”, he considered that a draft amending finance law “should not be a possibility but an obligation. I demand it.” He had asked to hear the Mayor on this issue.
An amending budget in the event of new savings
“The decision taken by the Minister of the Economy and Finance is to be able to act quickly and to act quickly, we make decisions which are by regulatory means and we go to the ceiling of what we can do with these 10 billion euros in savings that are announced,” explained Marie Lebec.
She recalled that with the European elections of June 9, a campaign period opened that was not conducive to the “desire to save money.”
A parliamentary debate “would take more time and I am not sure that we would face an immense responsibility from the oppositions in this matter,” she observed.
The minister recalled that the government was not excluding a “collective budget” but “later, during the summer, if this proves necessary”.
The Minister for Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, also recalled Tuesday on France Inter that “if we need to go further” than these 10 billion savings which are “already a significant effort”, then the government would submit a draft “Summer amending budget”.
