Amazon buys the “James Bond” studio MGM. This should not change anything about the release of “No Time to Die” in the cinema.

Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer (MGM) and Amazon have confirmed that the shipping giant will buy the Hollywood studio for 8.45 billion US dollars, the equivalent of around 6.9 billion euros – and thus also the “James Bond” Films. Could this mean that “James Bond 007: No Time to Die” will no longer come to the big screen after several postponements and will only be shown on Amazon Prime Video? Bond producers Barbara Broccoli (60) and Michael G. Wilson (79) can reassure cinema fans.

A series “for the global cinema audience”

“Our aim is to keep making ‘James Bond’ films for global cinema audiences,” explain the two of the US industry magazine “Variety”. Although MGM owns the rights to sell the Bond series and will soon be with Amazon, the final decisions on many aspects – including, for example, marketing or who will succeed Daniel Craig (53) – are made Broccoli and Wilson.

If there is no further postponement, “No Time to Die” will apparently continue to run in theaters at the end of the year. It is currently unknown when the film will be released on Amazon’s streaming service. With the purchase of MGM, Amazon acquires the rights to more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows and series, including the “Rocky” series and “Vikings”.
