No wonder, but not a debacle
VAR slows down a major KSC catch-up race
The SC Paderborn makes a jump in the table of the 2nd Bundesliga on matchday 12. Opponent Karlsruher SC will be overrun after his cup coup in the first half, then the game will be a tremendous game. The former surprise team Jahn Regensburg also celebrates an important victory.
Karlsruher SC – SC Paderborn 2: 4 (0: 4)
SC Paderborn inflicted a bitter defeat on the Karlsruher SC cup heroes and moved up to fourth place in the table of the 2nd Bundesliga. Four days after its surprising success at Bayer Leverkusen in the second round of the DFB Cup, the KSC was overrun by East Westphalia in the first half and lost 2: 4 (0: 4). Sven Michel with a hat trick (23rd, 29th and 32nd minute) became the man of the game in front of 14,039 spectators. Julian Justvan (20th) had put the Paderborn in the lead. For KSC, which slipped to ninth place, Fabian Schleusener (68th) and Philipp Hofmann (70th) met.
The goals of the guests were worth seeing. Justvan hit by direct tap from around 15 meters, Michel first with a powerful shot and then with a jack. For his third goal, the 31-year-old only had to hold out his foot. The people of Baden got up late. After Kyoung-Rok Choi hit the post (60th), Joker Schleusener and Hofmann brought her back with a double strike. Around ten minutes before the end, referee Timo Gerach decided on a penalty for KSC after a duel between Marvin Wanitzek and Jamilu Collins, but then took it back according to the video images – and so braked KSC on the way to a possible miracle comeback.
Hansa Rostock – Fortuna Düsseldorf 2: 1 (1: 0)
Newcomers FC Hansa Rostock kept their distance from the relegation ranks with their second home win. The team of coach Jens Härtel defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf deservedly 2-1 (1-0) and is twelfth after twelve match days. Hanno Behrens (20th minute) and Bentley Baxter Bahn (73./hand penalty) scored the goals for the hosts in front of 20,000 spectators in the Ostseestadion. Khaled Narey (57th) had meanwhile equalized for the guests.
The hosts, who had changed four positions compared to the success of the cup at Jahn Regensburg, were clearly the dominant representatives and were rewarded with the leadership for their efforts. Midfielder Behrens shot centrally from 18 meters and hit the right corner for Düsseldorf goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier. Four minutes later, center forward John Verhoek had the 2-0 on the foot, but found his champion from close range in Kastenmeier.
Fortuna’s offensive had nothing to offer in the first section. Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke did not have to intervene seriously once. When the Hansa captain had to react, he had no chance. Narey used the Rhinelander’s first real opportunity to achieve a happy balance. But then the substitute train converted a hand penalty ice cold to victory.
FC Ingolstadt – Jahn Regensburg 0: 3 (0: 1)
Jahn Regensburg’s surprise team stubbornly remains in the top group. The Upper Palatinate won the Danube Derby at bottom of the table FC Ingolstadt 3-0 (1-0). With 25 points, Jahn is second behind leaders FC St. Pauli after the twelfth game day. “Newcomers, NewcomersA, the Jahn fans who traveled with us chanted among the 7024 spectators in the Ingolstadt sports park.
Striker David Otto (9th minute), penalty taker Max Besuschkow (63rd) and substitute Kaan Caliskaner (73rd) scored the goals for coach Mersad Selimbegovic’s clearly more mature team. Four days after the exhausting cup knockout on penalties against Hansa Rostock, however, the guests had to bite to get their seventh win of the season.
André Schubert also remained without a win in the fourth game as Ingolstadt coach. Without the sick captain Stefan Kutschke, the Schanzers lacked penetrating power. Otto’s goal after fine preparatory work by Benedikt Saller set the course early. Besuschkow made after a foul on captain Benedikt Gimber from the penalty spot for the preliminary decision. Caliskaner increased after a corner kick with a head. The FCI fought, but that was not enough. Michael Heinloth shot past (12th). And Jahn goalkeeper Alexander Meyer fended off a header from defender Thomas Keller with a reflex (55th).
