Nobody was ever stronger – Peugeot 508 PSE: This is how the record-breaking athlete drives

Peugeot wants to position itself in a sportier and higher quality. To this end, the French are introducing a new name and bringing the most powerful car they have ever built in series onto the market: the Peugeot 508 PSE. The compact athlete is a plug-in hybrid with a system output of an impressive 360 hp. “Krone” engine editor Stephan Schätzl was already able to drive the eye-catching four-door – his impressions here in the video!

PSE replaces the GTi previously used as a sports abbreviation and means “Peugeot Sport Engineering”. New sport – and there’s also a new price level: 67,200 euros or 68,960 euros for the SW named station wagon. A lot of money, but in return you get practically full equipment and a drive that cracks extremely spontaneously and delivers a maximum of 520 Nm system torque.

A 1.6-liter four-cylinder is flanked by two electric motors (one at the front, one at the rear), which not only enables the performance, but also the favorable standard consumption of 2.03 l / 100 km, which enables the exemption from the NoVA (However, the price is too high for electromobility funding).

In the test, the Peugeot 508 traveled 30 kilometers purely electrically with a fully charged battery (42 km according to WLTP). With an empty battery, i.e. exclusively with the combustion engine, he allowed himself eight liters with a moderate driving style. In sport mode, where the battery is constantly charged by the gasoline engine, in order to be able to call up full power at any time, it is definitely double-digit. The actual real consumption depends even more on the driving style or the usage profile than with pure combustion engines. The 43 liter tank, which is very small, is not an advantage. The pure gasoline models have a 62 liter tank.

The driving performance is sporty: it takes 5.2 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, although the Peugeot weighs a massive 1875 kg (measured without driver). The top speed is limited to 250 km / h.

The Peugeot 508 PSE is now available from dealers.
