Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy): a statement that will sadden fans

Renowned composer, Nobuo Uematsu is well known to fans of Final Fantasybut also other games like Granblue Fantasy, Fantasy Life, Lost Odyssey, Terra Battle, Oceanhorn or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Recently, he composed the main themes of Final Fantasy VII Remake And Final Fantasy VII Rebirthbut the rest of the tracks were written by other musicians.

Before his concert Merregon: Heart of IceNobuo Uematsu, 64, spoke with Zeit Online (via VGC), announcing very sad news for his fans :

When it comes to Final Fantasy, I’m still involved in writing the main themes for the games. But I don’t think I would compose music for a full game again.

We would have to go at full speed for two or three years. And I no longer think I have the physical and mental strength to do it. I think that I prefer to use the time I have left to work on other projects that I enjoy. Like compositions for Merregnon or my group Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI.

As a reminder, Nobuo Uematsu had already taken the time to breathe a few years ago, already finding his work “difficult, mentally and physically”. The composer’s last game should therefore remain Fantasian, a RPG on Apple Arcade written by Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Final Fantasy who has collaborated a lot of times with Nobuo Uematsu. A title which could also arrive soon on PC according to certain rumors.

Even though the fans are sad, Nobuo Uematsu doesn’t completely hang up, he just abandons the composition for a complete gamebut he will always be writing certain musical tracks for various titles, with logically his name in the credits of the sequel to FF VII Remake And Rebirth.
