Smartphone maker HMD is reportedly continuing to play on nostalgia. After bringing back a modernized version of the Nokia 3310, the brand could be bringing back an iconic Nokia camera phone from the 2010s.
After releasing a Lumia-inspired smartphone with the Skyline model and revisiting the Nokia 3310 in a modernized version, HMD is reportedly continuing this momentum by developing an updated version of the Nokia Lumia 1020.
An iconic camera phone
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a smartphone that we would call a camera phone today. Released in 2013, it made headlines for its camera. Indeed, it had a 41-megapixel photo sensor, an exceptional fact for the time. It was a smartphone that pleased photographers for its options.
For comparison, at the time, the iPhone 5s had an 8-megapixel rear camera, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 had a 13-megapixel rear camera.
Today we learn via HMDNews that the manufacturer HMD would be working on a model resembling the Nokia Lumia 1020.
For the moment, the site does not specify a name or technical characteristics for what would be the new smartphone from HMD. However, we can recognize an external shape that recalls the Lumia phones and the circular photo module is undoubtedly similar to that of the 1020.
At the time, the Nokia Lumia 1020 had chosen to focus on its camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, a company known for its high-end photographic lenses. It is a safe bet that HMD will follow this high-end dynamic if it wants to relaunch this model in this segment.
From Nokia to HMD
After eight years at Nokia’s service, HMD continues to break away from it by releasing smartphones that can be inspired by iconic models or designed in a Barbie style.
The manufacturer takes the essential points that work, but adds a dose of repairability that is more than welcome in an ecological era.
