Nokia promises the legendary robustness of the 3310 with this brand new Android smartphone


The Nokia 3310 remains a memorable symbol for an entire generation. And now, Nokia promises us to find this emblematic robustness on its latest smartphone, the XR21.

Nokia, since it is in the bosom of HMD, had already surfed on the return of the 3310 with a featured phone uninteresting. With the Nokia XR21, HMD Global aims to bring the renowned ruggedness of Nokia’s phones of yesteryear back to the smartphone era. The device is built to withstand drops, water, and dust, while delivering a modern user experience with a 120Hz display and two-day battery life.

Resistant to a water jet at 100 bar pressure

The device is drop-proof up to 1.8 meters, can survive up to 1.5 meters underwater, is dust resistant, protected against temperatures ranging from -20°C to +55°C and even resistant to a water jet at 100 bar pressure and at a temperature of 80°C. HMD Global also promises security updates for four years and Android updates for three years. The successor to the Nokia XR20 (about 330 euros on Amazon) will however be delivered with Android 12 while Android 14 is on the way.

The 4,800 mAh battery, thanks to the efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor, allows a battery life of two days and charges via USB-C at up to 33 watts. The 6.49-inch 1080p+ definition IPS screen, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, reaches a brightness of 550 nits. There’s also a Gorilla Glass Victus treatment that protects against scratches and drops, while the touchscreen can be used with gloves or wet hands with special touch area calibration.

The smartphone has a 16-megapixel front camera, a 64-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, as well as night mode and portrait mode and speakers 96 dB stereo.

The Nokia XR21 is available now on the manufacturer’s website for 599 euros, in Midnight Black Or Pine Green, with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory. The device comes with a three-year warranty and a one-year warranty for the replacement of a broken screen.
