Nokia: retained by the Canadian research network Canarie

(CercleFinance.com) – Nokia announced on Thursday that Canarie, the Canadian network dedicated to research and education, had selected it as sole supplier for the establishment of a new high-performance IP network.

The Finnish equipment manufacturer explains that it will deploy its Nokia 7750 router technology as part of the project in order to establish an IP/MPLS platform to connect 13 regional networks and 100 sites spread across the world, over a length of more than 34,000 km.

The project, which will offer speeds ranging from 100 Gb/s to 400 Gb/s, is capable of supporting up to 46 Tb/s, the equivalent of transmitting 30 terabytes of data in less than 10 minutes , which represents the broadcast of 5,000 two-hour films on Netflix in 1080p HD.

Such capabilities will prove useful for processing data in fields such as physics, biology or astronomy knowing that the research institute must process data concerning millions of galaxies, explains Nokia in a press release.
