The day after the Victoires de la Musique, Nolwenn Leroy was invited to RTL this Saturday, February 12. During the interview, the singer did not hesitate to rant against the ceremony, believing that it “does not reflect what the public listens to as a whole”.
Critics rain down on the music victories. This Friday, February 11, the 37 edition of the famous ceremony rewarded the best artists of the French music scene. But the event was also marked by several highlights, including the rapper’s speech CHS. Winner of the most streamed album of the year, the Marseille rapper regretted the under-representation of rap during the ceremonyand lamented the absence of rappers who he believed would “just as deserved as the artists presented” to be invited on the stage of the musical Seine. “I’m a little embarrassed to hold this Victory in my hands without seeing them in front of me”, he added. A speech that echoes recent statements by Grand Corps Maladewho confessed to being “frustrated“not to have been named while his last album sold over 500,000 copies.
And this Saturday, February 12, it’s Nolwenn Leroy who added a layer to the airwaves of RTL. Guest of Unexpected logthe singer first indicated that she had no “absolutely not” watched the Victoires de la Musiquebefore giving his opinion on the subject. “I feel like there’s been a lot of comebacks this year, a lot of artists like Grand Corps Malade who sold a lot of records and didn’t get a chance to be named. Me, I am not one of the artists who have the chance to be named. It happened to me once on my album Bretonne, which sold well, but it wasn’t on my own songs, my own writing. And I’ve been doing this for 20 years. It’s not 5 albums, it’s 8 albums, and I’m far from the only artist in this case”she explained
Nolwenn Leroy: “Being recognized by your peers is still something that also matters for artists”
The Breton artist even insisted on specifying that she was “very happy for the winners”but believes that the Victoires de la Musique “do not always reflect what the public listens to as a whole”. “And then, there is no place for everyone”, she added. “What I’m telling you, I’ve never said. I speak up because I never dared to. I’ve always been afraid to do it but when I see Grand Corps Malade who did it recently, I think he’s right because it’s legitimate”continued Nolwenn Leroy, who considers that “the only real victory”, it’s his audience. However, she did not hide being saddened not to have more recognition on the side of the profession. “Being recognized by your peers is still something that also matters to artists. Particularly in the course which is mine so I can’t say that it doesn’t do something to me”she concluded.
