The “Quatsch Comedy Club” has given many comedians a career. Fans can now look forward to a special reunion.

The “Quatsch Comedy Club” is considered to be the longest-running comedy show in Germany. The format was first recorded for television in 1993 and made stand-up comedy popular in this country too. There is now a special TV treat for all fans from the very beginning: From May 27th, the 24 premiere episodes from 1993 and 1994 will be shown in double episodes exclusively on Sky Comedy.

In 1992, presenter and comedian Thomas Hermanns (58) imported the “Quatsch Comedy Club” from the Anglo-American region and brought it to the canteen of the Hamburger Schauspielhaus. Later, the Imperial Theater on the Reeperbahn and then the Kleine Revue in the basement of Berlin’s Friedrichstadt-Palast was the home of the club. Today there are locations in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Mönchengladbach and Stuttgart, where comedy shows take place regularly. From 1993 onwards, TV viewers were also able to enjoy performances by well-known comedians and newcomers who gained their first stage experience with a microphone in hand.

First comedy numbers with the microphone

The stars of the first hour are today’s greats Wigald Boning (54), Olli Dittrich (64), Rüdiger Hoffmann (57), Michael Mittermeier (55), Martin Schneider (57) and Désirée Nick (64). Other “Quatsch Comedy Club” regular guests were Sandra Steffl (50), Monty Arnold (53), Dietmar Burdinski (1959-2010) and Rainald Grebe (50). Stars from the UK and US scene also made guest appearances, including Hattie Hayridge (61), Rhona Cameron (55) and Alan Davies (55).

Thomas Hermanns is also pleased that the very first episodes will be shown again on TV. “Here you can really see how the nonsense started to run – the very first stand-up comedy recordings in Germany ever! For fans, experts and fun archaeologists!” In each episode five comedians appear without a moderator, the respective numbers merge into one another. For the renewed TV broadcast, the first episodes were digitally edited and completed with subtitles by the English-speaking guests and a short introduction by Thomas Hermanns.
