2024 - Nordahl Lelandais sentenced for the murder of Maëlys: the shocking reaction of the mother and the girl's sister

Nordahl Lelandais was sentenced to life imprisonment, with 22 years of security, Friday February 18, 2022. Shortly after the announcement of the verdict, BFMTV revealed the reaction of the mother and sister of little Maëlys .

Incarcerated in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier prison since September 2017, Nordahl Lelandais had already been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the murder of Corporal Arthur Noyerwhich occurred in April 2017. Since January 31, 2022, the former soldier appeared before the Grenoble Assize Court, as part of his trial for the murder of little Maëlys de Araujo. As a reminder, this tragedy occurred on the night of August 26 to 27, 2017. After several weeks of hearings, the verdict finally fell on Friday February 18, 2022. Nordahl Lelandais was sentenced to life imprisonment with 22 years of security.

The accused had previously claimed to recognize “all of the alleged facts“. He also explained to the judges that he “voluntarily killed Maëlys“. With regard to the circumstances of the death of the little girl, Nordahl Lelandais had repeatedly mentioned a “slap“.”On the way, it does not happen at all as it should have happened unfortunately. (…) I turned my head and I had this feeling, completely crazy, that no one can understand. I had this fear of what happened in April 2017. I kicked“, he had indicated. The conviction of the former soldier was eagerly awaited by those close to little Maëlys.

Present in court when the jury rendered its verdict, a journalist from BFM TVrelated the shocking reaction of the mother and sister of the victim of Nordahl Lelandais. “The first reaction for Jennifer and Coline, Maëlys’ mother and sister, it was hugging each other really hard when they heard that verdict. They held hands constantly. They are very united in this trial and in this ordeal in general. There was a lot of emotion in the room. There are about 60 people, family and relatives, who are still in this room. There is a lot of emotion that appears on the faces“, indicated another journalist of BFM TV present on the board. For his part, Nordahl Lelandais “remained unmoved, but seemed a bit stunned“.
