Nordahl Lelandais sentenced to the maximum sentence: the verdict on the murder of little Maëlys has been delivered

This Friday, February 18, Nordahl Lelandais was sentenced to an incompressible sentence for the murder of Maëlys. A verdict that was eagerly awaited by those close to Maëlys de Araujo.

A major condemnation. Nordahl Lelandais has been incarcerated in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier prison since September 2017. Nine months ago, he was sentenced to twenty years’ imprisonment for the murder of Arthur Noyerwhich occurred in April 2017. Since January 31, he was tried during his trial before the Grenoble Assize Court for the murder of Maëlys de Araujowhich occurred on the night of August 26 to 27, 2017. This Friday, February 18, the verdict is in and the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment with 22 years of security, the heaviest sentence he faced. Thursday, February 17, the life imprisonment with a security period of 22 years had been requested. The Advocate General described Nordahl Lelandais as “psychopath, permanent liar. He’s a chillingly cold man after the fact, a man with a split personality.“. In front of the judges, Nordahl Lelandais had affirmed to recognize “all of the alleged facts”. Subsequently, he explained that he “voluntarily killed Maëlys” before adding credit note “raise in [sa] car and then removed”. However, these are very different remarks that he had made a few days later. “I didn’t take Maëlys in my car to kill her“, he had assured before adding: “She got in my car to go see my dogs. I did not remove it on purpose“. Moving words for those close to the little girl.

An unlikely reason. When he claimed to have voluntarily killed the little girl on February 12, Nordahl Lelandais also recounted his death in detail. “Foolishly, I tell her ‘come up’ and she opens the door. I had no bad intentionshe had started before adding:I tell myself that it will make him happy to see my dogs“. Regarding the circumstances of the death of Maëlys de Araujo, the accused always mentioned a “slap“, claiming that she started crying.”On the way, it does not happen at all as it should have happened unfortunately. She begins to hiccup. A little cry. At that time, I don’t know what happened.” he remembered before specifying: “II turned my head and I had this feeling, completely crazy, that no one can understand. I had this fear of what happened in April 2017. I kicked”, he said. Nordahl Lelandais had also mentioned “shame, remorse, guilt, I will have it all my life”, he said before apologizing to those close to Maëlys de Araujo. What about a possible sexual assault? “You would like me to say it’s a sex crime, but not at all. I was not at all in this sexual perspective, far from it”, he concluded.

Maëlys de Araujo: what did the autopsy of her body reveal?

During the trial of Nordahl Lelandais, the revelations were linked. At the helm, three experts, including a medical examiner, had discussed the conclusions of the autopsy performed on the body of the little girl. “When we recovered the body, there were no more biological elements“, had first explained one of them. Subsequently, a 3D scanner reconstruction of Maëlys’s skull was viewed. “What can be seen on the photo of the skull from the front, you have a broken nose bone, a piece of bone missing. Then we can observe a right parasymphyseal fracture and at the level of the left mandible another fracture“, he had continued. “In conclusion, there is no incompatibility between the bone lesions and the mechanism evoked by Nordahl Lelandaisthat is to say a blow, but on the other hand, there is little chance that the death occurred as he describes it“, he concluded. This conviction was eagerly awaited by those close to Maëlys.
