Normandy new victim of the black series of cyberattacks against communities

And one more ! Definitely, the list of large communities victims of a computer attack does not stop growing. After the Guadeloupe region or the departments of Seine-et-Marne, Alpes-Maritimes or Seine-Maritime, it is the Normandy region which has just announced that it has been the victim of a computer intrusion.

Unavailability of digital services

“All digital services in the region for users are currently inaccessible,” said the community on December 10 on a new temporary site. The latter was set up to be able to communicate during the crisis. “Telephone calls and contact by email are not possible” and it is no longer possible for example “to apply for subsidies in a dematerialized way”, underlines the community.

Other consequences of the unavailability of digital services: internet access to the regional administrative sites of Caen and Rouen, high schools, as well as “in some of the community’s satellites”, are suspended, adds the community. In addition to Anssi, the region is supported by a specialized company to carry out technical investigations into computer intrusion.

According West France, 600 servers and 1,500 community computers are being assessed. The president of the region, Hervé Morin, said he expected the community to be paralyzed for “several weeks”. The latest examples of affected communities indeed suggest that the slope will be long for the region.

In its last situation update, at the end of November, the Guadeloupe region indicated that it was still “hard at work to carry out analyzes to know the extent of the attack and to respond to it as best as possible”. A way of saying that the community always has more questions than answers.
