A 22-year-old man was shot dead on Saturday evening on the outskirts of a city in the Lille metropolis. A 26-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody after testimony from “two individuals who allegedly fled on foot”.

A person was taken into police custody after the shooting death on Saturday evening of a 22-year-old man in Wasquehal (North), we learned on Sunday from the Lille prosecutor’s office. The man “was shot dead around 10 p.m. on avenue du Grand Cottignies in Wasquehal”, on the outskirts of this city in the Lille metropolitan area, the prosecution told AFP, adding that an investigation had been “immediately opened for murder”.

Back and head injuries

The man was injured “by a bullet in the back and in the head” and died at the scene “despite the care” provided by the emergency services, a police source told AFP. The victim is “unfavourably known to the police”, she added. According to this source, “witnesses mentioned two individuals who allegedly fled on foot”, one was arrested, but the other “was not found”. “A 26-year-old person was arrested and taken into custody,” confirmed the prosecution.
