North: a rare and incongruous animal found in an apartment in the middle of town!

Sometimes, the gendarmerie can make discoveries for less… astonishing. This Tuesday, October 25, the gendarmes of the Lille research brigade decided to strike a blow in their investigation to acts committed in an organized gang linked to several car thefts in the department of the North. After a long search, their investigation led them to the city of Roubaix, where several suspects seemed to have met in a home in the city. So, the gendarmes planned a search. But the least we can say is that they did not expect what they were going to find there.

It was the Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (PSIG) of the Hallennes-lez-Haubourdin brigade and the PSPG of Gravelines, an elite group of the gendarmerie like the RAID, which carried out the search. . But, once the door is broken down, they made a discovery that could not be more unexpected. In the house, a cage contained a caracal, a species of feline approaching a wild cat, held in a cage. Caracals, a protected species, cannot be kept without authorization.

Several exotic animals have been found in the area

The gendarmes therefore called on the firefighters of Roubaix and the services of the French Office for Biodiversity to take charge of the animal. The caracal was finally released in an animal park in the Loire. It must be said that the police are well versed: this is not the first time that an exotic animal has been found in the area. During this summer, a serval had been found in Tourcoing and another serval had been found dead in a street in Roubaix. From now on, it remains for the police to discover and stop this animal trafficking.
