A 30-year-old man was arrested in Leers (North) on December 26 in the middle of the afternoon. He is accused of physical assault and rape by a 15-year-old teenager who claims to have been confined for several days at her home.

As reported by La Voix du Nord, it was a neighbor who found the victim. While at home, the latter heard cries of calls for help from a nearby apartment.

“I managed to raise the shutter several decimeters. The girl was naked, I told her to take a towel and her things. It then slipped under the shutter. (…) She was terrified, she would not let go of me, she was trembling all over. She remained clinging to me until the arrival of help, ”she testified to our colleagues.

The suspect was out shopping by the time the teenager was discovered. In doing so, the police waited for him to come back and arrested him a little later on his return.

If the investigation is underway, the Douai prosecutor’s office says it has not received a report for kidnapping or disappearance concerning the young girl. The latter, however, claims to have run away last Wednesday from her home in Lille and to have crossed paths with her attacker on the road the same day.

Suspect describes as “radicalized”

Placed in police custody as soon as he is arrested, the man is described by his neighbors as a solitary and misogynistic bachelor. Known to the authorities, complaints of sexual assault have already been made against him in the past.

Qualified as a “radical Muslim” according to several accounts, he was reported two years ago by one of his neighbors: “he shouted“ Allah Akbar ”in the middle of the night. I thought I saw gas cylinders, I was afraid he would blow up the building, I called the police ”.

Other witnesses say they saw him run naked on several occasions. After having passed a battery of examinations, the man “suffering from psychiatric disorders, is now hospitalized in a specialized establishment”, for his part indicated the Lille prosecutor’s office to the police news site Actu17.
