North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un speaks out about a possible war with South Korea.
The country would not avoid war, said Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-un accuses the US of increasing tensions in the region.
He also described South Korea as enemy state number one.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has apparently abolished several government organizations that dealt with relations with South Korea. This includes the Committee for Peaceful Reunification, state media in North Korea report.
During a speech in parliament, Kim Jong-un accused South Korea and the United States of inflaming tensions in the region. He said it had become impossible for his country to strive for reconciliation and peaceful reunification with the south. Although his country does not want war, North Korea has no intention of avoiding one, Kim Jong-un said, according to the state news agency.
In addition, the designation of South Korea as enemy state number one should be anchored in the socialist constitution of his country, explained the North Korean ruler.
North and South Korea have technically still been at war since 1953 – the fighting was ended by a ceasefire, not a peace treaty.
