North Sea coast expects tourist rush and long-term campers at Easter

Despite the increasing number of corona infections, campsites on the North Sea coast have opened their gates for the first permanent campers. A number of parking spaces are already occupied – some municipalities expect full capacity by Easter.

On the holidays, the tourism associations expect an increased rush of day tourists to the North Sea coast. As Ingo Kruse from the Wangerland Touristik-Gesellschaft announced, 400 to 500 parcels have already been occupied by long-term campers in the past few days at the sites in the municipality of Wangerland in Friesland, in Hooksiel and in Schillig (Lower Saxony). That corresponds to a good half of the parking spaces – the rest should be completely occupied by Easter.

Tourist overnight stays are prohibited

In order to ensure a safe stay, campers in the municipality of Wangerland must show a negative Corona test upon arrival and use the Luca app to follow up on contacts. In addition, a strict hygiene concept applies, compliance with which is also checked on the campsites, emphasized Kruse.

According to Lower Saxony’s Corona Ordinance, tourist overnight stays are still prohibited at Easter. Long-term campers are allowed to spend the night in their caravans.

Norderney announces controls on arrival

During the Easter holidays, tourism associations expect that an increasing number of day tourists and second home owners will come to the coast. Norderney announced controls at ship arrivals on the island earlier this week.

Mayor Frank Ulrichs called in a message to avoid day trips to the coast. The district of Cuxhaven has already completely banned day tourism at Easter in certain areas. (prei / dpa)
