Northern Afghanistan hit by 6.5 magnitude earthquake

KABUL (Reuters) – A 6.5 magnitude earthquake in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday evening was felt as far away as Kabul, Islamabad and the Indian capital New Delhi.

It is not yet known whether there are casualties or damage.

The earthquake was recorded at a magnitude, revised, of 6.5 by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) and at a depth of 194 km.

The epicenter was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range, which stretches from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake killed more than 1,000 people last year in eastern Afghanistan.
