Northwestern Swiss Wrestling Festival – Substitute Bieri celebrates the greatest success of his career in Lausen – Sport

The guest from the canton of Zug surprisingly triumphs at the Northwestern Swiss regional association festival in Lausen, Basel-Landschaft.

At the age of 29, Marcel Bieri has celebrated the greatest success of his career to date. The Zug teacher, who had previously won the Zug Cantonal Championships (only) twice, triumphed for the first time at a regional association event in Lausen. In the final round, he made the winning move against Samuel Schmid (NSW) with a short shot after nine minutes.

After a draw at the start against Lars Voggensperger, Bieri put on a flawless performance. The 29-year-old was awarded a score of 10 four times and also beat his surprise opponent in the final round, Samuel Schmid, with the maximum score. Bieri had not originally planned to compete in Lausen. He was called up by the Central Swiss Association as a replacement for the injured wrestling king Joel Wicki.

Sinisha Lüscher also caused a stir in Lausen. The 18-year-old from Aargau defeated two Swiss competitors, Marcel Räbsamen and Patrick Räbmatter, and missed out on a place in the final round by just 0.25 points after a draw against Schmid in the 5th round. Thanks to Bieri’s victory, he overtook Schmid in the final rankings and took 2nd place.

Walther wins at the Seeland

Under the watchful eye of wrestling king Christian Stucki, the Bernese compatriot Adrian Walther celebrated his second Kranzfest victory this year at the Seeland Wrestling Festival in Täuffelen. The soon-to-be 23-year-old final round participant at Unspunnen 2023 had to go the full distance in the final round against his association colleague Fabian Staudenmann, but in the end Walther’s draw with a score of 9 was enough to win the festival.

Staudenmann, the leader of the Bernese and top favorite on this day, finished in the place of honor, 0.25 points behind, together with Matthieu Burger, Michael Moser and Alex Schär.
