“Not for the faint of heart”: Polar bears don’t make a series out of mistakes

The polar bears are back on track. After the recent bankruptcy, however, it takes two thirds before things get rolling. The Berliners owe the fact that things are less tight at the top of the table to the stumbling of two pursuers. Straubing and Bremerhaven, on the other hand, are keeping up.

The Eisbären Berlin are back on the road to success. After a 0-1 draw against the Kölner Haie on the last match day, the record champions in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) won 4-1 (0-0, 1-1, 3-0) at ERC Ingolstadt. In the final third, the Eisbären secured victory thanks to Yannick Veilleux, Tobias Eder and Manuel Wiederer and consolidated their lead in the table with 39 points. “It wasn’t a game for the faint-hearted,” said goalscorer Eder at Magenta Sport: “Especially in the final third, we were very solid. Regardless of whether it was five-on-five or outnumbered.”

The Straubing Tigers are only three points behind after a win against Adler Mannheim. In their own hall, the Mannheim team had to accept a 1:4 (0:2, 1:1, 0:1) defeat and lost some of the connection to the top three. Cole Fonstad, Mike Connolly, Tyler Sheehy and Nicolas Mattinen scored for the Tigers. Linden Vey scored the only goal for the Eagles.

The Grizzlys Wolfsburg, tied with Mannheim in fifth place in the table, also lost at home. In the 2:4 (0:2, 0:1, 2:1) against the Löwen Frankfurt, coach Mike Stewart’s team was unable to equalize despite a good final phase. In the final third, Wolfsburg came within one goal, but the Frankfurters kept their composure and pulled back within two goals in the final minute thanks to Carter Rowney.

Bottom team Iserlohn Roosters lost to Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven 1:5 (0:2, 0:1, 1:2) and still have twelve points. Second to last is Düsseldorfer EG, which lost 1:2 (0:0, 0:1, 1:1) to champions Red Bull Munich. Benjamin Street (60th) scored shortly before the end to win.
