Not from Samsung, Apple or Xiaomi: These cell phones are becoming increasingly popular in Europe

Good news for Samsung, Apple and Xiaomi because more smartphones are being sold again in Europe. Compared to the previous year, manufacturers in this country were able to sell 10 percent more devices in the second quarter of 2024, report market researchers from Counterpoint Research. All three of the world’s leading cell phone manufacturers were able to make gains. Samsung grew by 8 percent, Xiaomi by 1 percent and Apple even by 18 percent. However, sales of other brands are now growing significantly faster.

Tecno was able to increase its sales by a whopping 196 percent. The brand belongs to the Chinese company Transsion, which is now one of the five largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. Tecno sold its devices primarily in Africa. The budget phones are now also available in Europe – primarily in Eastern Europe and Russia. But the company also has an eye on the German market and, for example, sold a 100 euro cell phone through Aldi last year. Due to its broad product portfolio, Tecno could achieve a similar development to Xiaomi.

Honor, Realme and Tecno on the rise

The “Realme” brand also grew strongly in the second quarter. Like Apple, it grew by 18 percent. Realme specializes in attractive mid-range cell phones. The Realme 13 Pro+, for example, was recently sold over 100,000 times in just one week in India. The market launch in Europe is still pending. In addition to Realme and Tecno, according to market researchers, Honor’s cell phones are also becoming increasingly popular – especially in Western Europe. However, Counterpoint Research does not provide any figures for this.

If you look at the sales figures for the entire first half of 2024, another new mobile phone brand stands out with strong growth alongside Realme, Honor and Tecno.
