Handball Bundesliga team Rhein-Neckar Löwen is apparently rocked by a financial scandal. “Unfortunately, we have had to discover significant irregularities in the areas of finance and sales in the last few weeks during checks. Not just simple errors, which can happen anywhere, but deceptions and untrue representations in our books,” said managing director Jennifer Kettemann in an interview with the club the club homepage.
There have already been personnel consequences, Kettemann continued. The finance and sales team has been reorganized so that “things like this cannot happen again.” She didn’t want to go into further detail. However, there is no reason to worry about the sporting future. “The club is too broad and healthy for that. Of course, we have to overcome challenges due to the economic situation and the situation described. However, it was always important to me not to rely on just one pillar, but to place the club on many supporting pillars .”
The German champion from 2016 and 2017 is already going through troubled times after national handball player Juri Knorr announced his wish to move in the summer of 2025. “He would like to change his sport and come into an environment that allows him to focus better on sport. This has nothing to do with our financial situation,” added Kettemann. The “Bild” newspaper recently reported that the 23-year-old is about to move to the Danish first division club Aalborg. Former Flensburg native Maik Machulla will take over as coach from the summer.
