Microsoft would like to boost the famous Windows Notepad using artificial intelligence. The software would be able to rewrite text according to your wishes with a dedicated assistant.
Who hasn’t yet had their dose ofartificial intelligence ? It seems that fashion is inimplementation of AI in as many products and software as possible possible. Latest: Notepad, which got a welcome makeover in Windows 11. You must have opened this admittedly basic utility at least once in your life. If only to act as a virtual sticky note because you forgot the existence of the Sticky notes on your computer. Imagine that it could soon do better than the late WordPad.
The Internet user PhantomOcean3 spotted the new feature in version 11.2312.17.0 of Notepad, or NotePad in the language of Shakespeare. At the top right is the menu for a “Cowriter”, which perhaps translates to “Writing Assistant” for us. In total, 5 options are offered. They are not original since they are found in the vast majority of current chatbots, whether it’s ChatGPT or Bard to name a few. Despite everything, they would have the merit of making Notepad a much more useful tool than currently.
AI could enter Windows Notepad
The first option is simply rewriting your text. It is also possible to make it shorterand finally to change the tone where the format. There are no details yet on these last two points, but we imagine a choice between a familiar, neutral or professional tone for example. In the screenshot below, also note the coin-like icon with a number next to it. It would be the number of remaining uses of Writing Assistant in Notepad.
PhantomOcean3 has indeed noted two particularly evocative lines in the code: “You have reached the credit limit” and “You have used all available credits, credits are restored every X days”. At this stage, it is impossible to say more about this. How many credits will be offered? What is the limit? Is the recharge complete or partial? Will it be possible to buy more credits? You will have to wait to get the answers.
