Nothing has no intention of letting go of its “Glyph” system

The young brand Nothing has played the originality card by banking, from the launch of its first smartphone – the Phone (1) on a system of glyphs visible on the back of its device. A series of LEDs are thus applied to it and allow, since then, notifications, charge level and other timers to be viewed. Same fight on the Phone (2), dating from 2023, and sporting 33 LEDs divided into 16 light zones. Since its release, this latest smartphone has offered its owners the ability to create “light ringtones” using a Glyph Composer integrated into the product, but there was no question of making it available to third-party applications, apart from a few partners. announced at the launch of the Phone (2), namely the Zomato and Uber platforms.

Nothing indicates today that new applications will soon be able to take advantage of the LEDs on its smartphones. A kit dedicated to developers is now available to interested parties, who must still register in order to be notified of the availability of the API keys necessary for the publication of the scenarios thus created. They can now go to github to initiate their projects. It now remains to be seen whether the option is able to arouse the interest of developers, even though the young brand currently only has two products whose sales cannot compete with those of giants such as Samsung or Xiaomi.

If the brand continues to invest in its Glyph system, it is undoubtedly because it does not intend to abandon it any time soon. We must therefore hope that the Phone (2a), which we expect to be made official at the Mobile World Congress at the end of February, will also be equipped with it, despite a less high-end positioning than the Phone (2).
