The first smart phone de Nothing seems to be accumulating hardware and software problems as the first copies begin to be shipped to its customers.

Nothing will have definitely succeeded in its communication: it is impossible to miss the launch of the Nothing Phone (1) in recent days.

Some bugs present in the first copies of the Nothing Phone (1)

The first smartphone from the young brand created by Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, caused a sensation among testers, and especially in our columns, even if we noted some bugs and software problems present in our test unit.

However, the problems seem to be much more numerous to read the feedback from the various users who already have the Nothing Phone (1) in hand.

From a software point of view, some owners may have experienced delays after unlocking the device, but also connectivity problems with the device’s onboard Bluetooth. If these can be partially corrected by deactivating, then reactivating the media and calls in Bluetooth in the settings of the device, they return quickly afterwards.

It is not yet known when Nothing will offer a software update to permanently fix these two particularly annoying bugs.

An original design marred by dead pixels and humidity

Even more annoying, some copies of the Nothing Phone (1) suffer from serious hardware problems.

Many users complain in particular about the presence of a dead pixel just above the front camera integrated into the screen. At this time, Nothing has not provided an explanation or offered a solution to customers who are affected by this issue.

Similarly, a buyer noticed the presence of moisture under the rear photo sensor of his Nothing Phone (1), despite the IP53 certification which normally indicates that the smartphone is protected against water infiltration. This time, the brand was quick to react and a replacement model was immediately sent to the customer.

Finally, the Nothing Phone (1) seems to have some calibration issues with a green tint on the screen when in use. Hardware or simply software problem, it is still too early to tell, but Nothing has been alerted by many tweets on this subject. It only remains to wait for a response from him on this subject.

Nothing Phone (1)

  • Successful design
  • The Glyph interface, quickly indispensable
  • Stunning 120Hz OLED display

Nothing wanted to revolutionize the smartphone market with its phone (1). Without reinventing the wheel, the young London brand of Carl Pei has been able to bring a certain breath of fresh air. We obviously see it through the Glyph interface which gives it a different look from the others, but also allows us to change (a little) our habits of use.

Nothing is still building its brand image, quite clearly inspired by Apple. The work of the designers did not stop at the design of the phone (1), whose aesthetics are quite undeniable (but everyone has their own tastes). The packaging of the smartphone or the shape of the charging block (sold separately) have been studied to offer something different – and differentiating – to users.

Finally, in terms of technical characteristics, the smartphone fits perfectly into the mid-range segment, not really doing better than its competitors, but not doing less either. As for Nothing OS, the lightweight overlay of the manufacturer already sublimates the Android experience.
