Nothing picks the worst day of the year for an ad

Nothing announces the day of the presentation of its first smartphone. Fish tail or not?

Nothing, the brand of the founder of OnePlus, has already hit hard with the ear(1), the brand’s first headphones. Now, many fans are already waiting for the sequel, and in particular the first smartphone which should arrive shortly. At the MWC, for example, the smartphone was briefly seen in the hands of Carl Pei, without being presented.

An announcement on April 1?

The Nothing Phone(1) has already been mentioned several times by the brand, to the point of revealing its operating system and its interface. We now know its announcement date through a tweet from the official account.

The message is as clear as it is concise: announcement tomorrow ” for this “one more thing“. Nothing therefore chose April 1 to present its flagship product.

A date avoided by all…

By doing this, Nothing avoids competition. Few brands dare to make announcements on this date cursed by journalists. It is very rare that day to sort out the real information and the jokes of more or less bad taste and a good number of media simply decide not to relay the announcements which may seem too exuberant.

By choosing this date, Nothing therefore prevents any out-of-the-ordinary announcement, under penalty of being shunned by media coverage. Suffice to say that the decision is particularly strange.

… except the jokers

There’s always the possibility that this isn’t a real announcement and that Nothing will raise thehypearound its product while taking advantage of April 1st to announce nothing. The answer tomorrow, between two bad taste jokes.
