Nothing’s Phone (2) gets Android 14

Despite its young age compared to that of mobile telephony leaders, the Nothing brand demonstrates its desire to establish itself among the manufacturers most attentive to their consumers. It has thus shown itself able to offer among the first a beta of Android 14, associated with its Nothing OS interface, from October 2023. Carl Pei’s firm is announcing today the deployment of the final version of its system among its users, in the wake of Samsung. In passing, its system adopts version 2.5.

Among the new features, a modernized interface. The interface allowing you to redesign the home screen and the lock screen has been redesigned, and new options dedicated to wallpapers are available: it is possible to transform photo wallpapers into wallpapers. dynamic screens, but also to add a “glass” effect filter or to use a plain wallpaper. The Glyph light animations, specific to Nothing, gain some new features, notably a countdown synchronized with the Google Calendar, predefined timers, also accessible from the lock screen or even reporting of NFC use via the interface Glyph.

New gestures and shortcuts

New gestures and shortcuts are also appearing with Nothing OS 2.5, such as the possibility of choosing an application of your choice accessible by double-clicking on the Phone’s power button (2), but also to benefit from more shortcuts available from the lock screen or take a screenshot of a swipe with three fingers. Added to all this are new widgets, including one dedicated to the pedometer function and another dedicated to screen time, and various system fixes.

If this update is gradually available on the Phone (2), it has not yet been announced on the Phone (1). Nothing indicates, however, that its first smartphone will be entitled “very soon” to an open beta of Android 14, while waiting for the presentation of a third smartphone. The brand plans to present something new at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of February 2024: it will undoubtedly be the Phone (3).
