Google has released its new Android TV 13 update, which in no way revolutionizes the platform’s user interface. Developers, on the other hand, have access to more possibilities.
After a somewhat disappointing first beta last May, Google should not console the most disappointed with the stable version of Android TV 13, just deployed on compatible products. The Mountain View company split a blog post to announce the deployment of the update.
Refresh rate management
Here, the Californian giant does not revolutionize the interface or the user experience, but focuses more on the tools made available to developers. The only notable change to note concerns the management of definition and refresh rate: it is now adjustable for compatible HDMI devices.
Google also mentions improvements made to the Audio Manager API. Clearly, applications will be able to select the ideal audio format even before playing content, explains the company. Another API, InputDevice, is upping its game. With it, Android TV 13 now supports different keyboard layouts.
Better for accessibility
The American firm has also created a new audio description API integrated within AccessibilityManager. Here, an application will be able to understand the default, system-wide configured setting for audio description, so that developers can provide it automatically.
On the developer side, and in order to test all these new features, it is necessary to have the ADT-3 development kit, or an Android emulator for television.
Google wants to impose the AAB format on Android TV and Google TV instead of the traditional APK. A format that will prove very useful on our televisions.
