The adhesive vignette for the use of Austrian motorways and expressways has already been available for a week – from Wednesday the adhesive vignette – sunny yellow for 2024 – will also be available. It is valid from December 1, 2023.
The adhesive vignette is available at the usual points of sale, i.e. Asfinag, car clubs, petrol stations, tobacconists, Forstinger and ATU. There is a big surprise when it comes to the price: unlike usual, the annual vignette for cars is not more expensive. It remains at 96.40 euros. For motorcycles, the price is 38.50 instead of 38.20. The prices for the traditional adhesive vignette and the digital version are the same. The newly introduced one-day vignette for cars (8.60 euros) and motorcycles (3.40 euros) is only available digitally. The prices for the 2024 vignette at a glance: Annual vignette: 96.40 euros for cars or 38.50 euros for motorcycles Two-month vignette: 28.90 euros for cars or 11.50 euros for motorcycles Ten-day vignette: 11.50 euros for cars or 4.60 euros for motorcycles 1-day vignette: 8, 60 euros for cars or 3.40 euros for motorcycles. The validity of the annual vignette is, as always, 14 months, starting on December 1st, 2023 and ending on January 31st, 2025. All motor vehicles up to 3.5 tons are required to have a vignette. How to stick it correctly The adhesive vignette must be stuck on in a clearly visible place on the left edge of the windshield or behind the rear-view mirror (not on the tint strip). Old vignettes should be removed after they have expired to ensure good all-round visibility. The lower vignette section should be kept because the carrier film with the serial number serves as proof of purchase. It is required if a replacement vignette is issued, for example if the annual vignette was stuck incorrectly and accidentally canceled. You can then submit an application for a replacement vignette. Digital vignettes have advantages – but be careful! The advantages of the digital vignette are clear: once you register the license plate, you no longer have to stick and scrape it off and in the event of a window break, a replacement vignette is no longer necessary. Even owners of variable license plates no longer need a separate vignette for each vehicle. If you buy a digital vignette at a physical point of sale, it is valid immediately after purchase because the 18-day cancellation period before the start of validity (applies to online purchases) does not apply. The validity period of the 2024 vignettes begins on December 1st, 2023. What is new is that from December 1st you can also re-register the digital vignette if you, for example, B. has been assigned a new license plate due to a change of vehicle (costs 18 euros). If you are caught without a valid license plate, you will have to pay a replacement toll of 120 euros. If you tamper with or use another car’s vignette, a fine of 240 euros is due.
